But here is the one that really has me scratching my head. The so-hot-it's-hard-to-find reusable Starbucks cold cup. Looks identical to your regular, disposable cup, but it's not. If you read their website, they pat themselves on the back for listening to customer comments and bringing this "green" cup back by popular demand - and in a new bigger size!
Maybe I'm the only crazy one, but doesn't it seem weird to make a "green" cup that seems to celebrate the millions of other plastic cups being thrown away every day? I do get that these cups will be reused, but somehow the design still just doesn't feel right to me. Feel free to disagree in the Comment section below. I'm fairly certain I'm in the minority here since the bridal shower I went to this past weekend had everyone oohing and aahhing over these when they were opened as part of a gift.

At first, I had to really look to understand that the cup was not disposable. My guess is that people take pride in drinking "Starbucks" drinks. So, how "cool" to have a reusable cup that displays your tastes. I like the design because I drink iced soy chai tea from Starbucks and the cup feels more for cold drinks to me. I guess time will tell how the public receives it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone seeing someone happily sipping from this cup will likely assume it is the disposable one since it looks EXACTLY the same! Something that sets it apart - sort of advertising the green factor - would be good. I love the idea and I hear that it is insulated to keep those cold drinks nice and chilly. But a little nudge to other consumers to make a reusable choice would be nice. And Starbucks could give a small discount to anyone that brings in their clean cup for a new drink. Just a thought . . .
